Tech Golf Set to Face Tough Competition in Austin

LUBBOCK, Texas - The No.28/30 Texas Tech men's golf team heads to Austin, Texas, for the Morris Williams April 4-5 hosted by the University of Texas in Austin, Texas. The Red Raiders are coming off a sixth-place finish at the Lousiana Classics where junior Tyler Symons led the charge with a ninth-place individual finish of his own.
Symons, currently with the hot hand, has been Tech's leader on the individual board posting back-to-back ninth-place finishes at both of Tech's spring tournaments. Symons,a junior college transfer from the University of New Mexico, has stepped in for the Red and Black now averaging a 75.55 overall stroke average, and a 70.6 spring average.
Tech's overall stroke-avergae leaders are sophomore Oscar Floren who posts a team-low 72.29 on the season and junior Andrew Dresser who boasts the team's second-lowest stroke average of a 73.95.
Tech enters the contest with the challenge of facing some of the nations best teams filling the 16-team field. The competitors include No.62 Arkansas, No.49 Baylor, No.8 BYU, No.6 Florida, No.74 Fresno State, No.76 Houston, No.43 Oklahoma, No.1 Oklahoma State, Rice, No.35 SMU, host No.24 Texas, No.38 Texas A&M, No.16 TCU, No.28 Texas Tech, No.48 Tulsa and No.51 Virginia.
The 54-hole event will begin at on Mon., April 4 with 36-holes to be played at the Austin Country Club (Par 72, 6,906 yards). The remaining 18 holes are set to be played on Tues., April 5.
