Women's Tennis Opens Season with Abilene Christian

Lubbock, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team will open the 2006 season on Wed., Feb. 1, at the McLeod Tennis Center, as it hosts the Wildcats of Abilene Christian, at 3:30 p.m.
The Lady Raiders are ranked No. 61 in the current College Tennis Online poll. Senior Tara Browning is listed at No. 75 in singles and the doubles team of Katja Kovacic and Erin Hunter are seated at No. 23 in the rankings. Kovacic and Hunter are the highest-ranked Big 12 duo.
Tech tennis will continue its' homestand with two matches this weekend. On Sat., Feb. 4, Tech will host Prairie View A&M, at 12 p.m. The Lady Raiders will open their Big 12 season with Kansas State, on Sun., Feb. 5, at 10:30 a.m.
"We are really excited to get the season started," said head coach Cari Groce. "We have been working really hard this fall and I'm excited to see what can happen for us on the court because of it."
Groce is in her third year at the helm of the Lady Raider program. She has posted a record of 21-23 in her two seasons in Lubbock. This is her 15th season as a head coach and she has posted an overall record of 171-154.
