ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla - The Texas Tech softball team dropped its first two games of the season on Friday at the Triple Crown Classic, falling to Southern Illinois by a score of 3-0 in the tournament's first game, before dropping a 4-2 setback to Central Florida later in the day. The two losses drop the Red Raiders overall record to 2-2 this season.
In the first game of the day against Southern Illinois, the Tech offense had trouble putting runs on the board, despite collecting seven hits in the contest. Junior centerfielder Ashley Parker led the way with a pair of hits and a stolen base, while senior pitcher Julie Hauck turned in her second strong outing of the weekend, limiting the Salukis to only three runs while setting a career-high with eight strikeouts in her second complete game effort of the year.
In the second game of the day, redshirt freshman Motana Patin tallied the first two RBI of her career, with a RBI sacrifice fly in the first inning and a third inning single. Junior first baseman Brandy Moulin tallied her first multiple hit game of the season with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate.
Senior Erin Crawford was impressive out of the Tech bullpen, allowing only one hit and striking out four batters in two and one third innings of work of relief of starter Sarah Losleben.
Texas Tech softball is back in action on Saturday at the Triple Crown Classic in St. Augustine, Fla. The Red Raiders will take on Central Florida at 10:00 a.m. before squaring off with Southern Illinois at 1:30 p.m.
