LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech softball team will hit the road on Thursday, head west to New Mexico to take part in the team's final non-conference tournament of the season at the Lobo Classic, hosted by the University of New Mexico.
On Friday, the Red Raiders will take the field for a pair of games against the South Dakota State Jackrabbits, who enter the field with a record of 11-7 this season. Friday's games will be held at Albuquerque's Academy High School. On Saturday, Tech's doubleheader opponent will be the UC-Riverside, which enters the weekend with an overall mark of 16-4. The Red Raiders will conclude the tournament on Sunday with a match-up against tournament host New Mexico (11-12).
Texas Tech is coming off an impressive showing at the 2006 WSU Shocker Invitational last weekend where they posted three wins. The Red Raider offense broke out at the event, with sophomore Whitney Riley spearheading the offensive charge, hitting (8-for-15) with two doubles, one triple, one home run and two stolen bases at the event. After struggling at the plate early in the season, redshirt sophomore Robyn Wike posted a breakout game in the tournament-opener against Missouri State, going 3-for-3 at the plate with her first home run of the season and a career-high four RBI.
Senior pitcher Erin Crawford picked up a pair of wins in the circle for the team. The Leander, Texas, native improved her overall mark to 5-7 on the season.
Gametracker will not be available for this weekend's game, due to construction around the venue of the event.
The Red Raiders will enter conference action next weekend, when they travel to Waco, Texas, to face off against the No. 19 Baylor Bears. Texas Tech will open its home schedule on April 1, when the team hosts Big 12-rival No. 20 Texas A&M at Rocky Johnson Field.
