WACO, Texas - Senior pitcher Julie Hauck took a no-hitter into the bottom of the sixth inning, but No. 19 Baylor's offense awoke to push across three runs in the frame to complete a two-game sweep of the Texas Tech softball team, downing the Red Raiders by a score of 4-0 on Sunday at Getterman Stadium in Waco, Texas.
The setback drops Tech's overall record to 11-21 this season and 0-2 in Big 12 play. The Bears, meanwhile, improve to 20-13 overall and 2-1 in conference action.
As was the case in game one of the series, the game went to the bottom of the fifth inning scoreless. But the same as Saturday's contest, an errant throw by a Red Raider would result in an unearned run, the first of the ballgame. BU right fielder Jordan Daniels led the inning off with a walk and after advancing to second on a sacrifice, attempted to steal third base. Daniels was safe at third on the play and a low throw from Tech catcher Robyn Wike escaped to the outfield, allowing Daniels to score.
Hauck (5-7) was impressive in the contest, not allowing a base hit by the Bears until the bottom of the sixth when Baylor tacked three runs onto their lead on a home run by catcher Chelsi Lake.
Baylor junior pitcher Lisa Ferguson (11-7) took a no-hitter into the top of the seventh inning, but pinch hitter Montana Patin and second baseman Jennifer Bowers broke the bid up with singles in the Tech half of the inning.
Right fielder Whitney Riley had her career-best 10-game hitting streak snapped as she posted a 0-for-3 day at the plate.
The Red Raiders are back in action on Tuesday when they take on the Oklahoma Sooners in Norman, Okla.
