ARLINGTON, Texas - The Texas Tech softball team rallied after dropping the first game of a doubleheader to Texas-Arlington on Wednesday to post a 4-0 victory in the nightcap of the twinbill. The Mavericks took the game one of the day by a score of 3-2.
The split leaves Texas Tech's overall record this season at 16-24, while UTA stands at 25-13 this season.
Game one saw the Red Raiders jump out to an early 2-0 lead when sophomore second baseman Jennifer Bowers drove in a run with her first triple of the season and scored herself a batter later on a sacrifice fly by junior designated player Brandy Moulin.
Senior Erin Crawford was effective early in the contest, keeping the Mavericks off the scoreboard until the bottom of the fourth inning when she ran into trouble. Texas-Arlington was able to take advantage of two singles, a walk and a Tech error in the frame to open a 3-2 advantage and chase Crawford. The Leander, Texas, native was replaced by fellow senior Julie Hauck, who kept the Mavericks scoreless for the remainder of the game.
Tech could not rebound for its second consecutive late inning come-back win as they stranded five baserunners in the contest.
The Red Raiders bounced back in game two of the double dip behind a strong pitching performance by Sarah Losleben. The sophomore scattered five hits in five shutout innings to pick up her first win of the season.
Bowers again got the offense going for Tech, doubling in the top of the fourth inning to drive in Devin Zaragoza and Montana Patin and put the Red Raiders up 2-0. Zaragoza was impressive in the contest, posting a season-high three hits and two runs scored in a 3-for-3 effort at the plate. Patin reached base on a single in the fourth to extend her career-best hitting streak to nine games.
Freshman right fielder Megan Shupp tacked on another Red Raider run in the sixth with a RBI double and Bowers added her fourth RBI of the day in the seventh to extend the Red Raider lead to 4-0.
Crawford returned to toss the final two innings of the game, earning her third save of the season.
Texas Tech softball is back in action on Thursday as they travel to Denton, Texas, to face North Texas in a doubleheader. The first game of the twinbill is slated for a 3 p.m. first pitch.
