Hall of Legacy Welcomes New Members

LUBBOCK, Texas - Three individuals and a major local corporation that have helped raise Texas Tech to a national power over the last decade will be inducted into the 2006 Hall of Legacy.
Mickey and Renee Long, Larry Anders and Covenant Health System comprise this year's Hall of Legacy class that will be honored by Texas Tech Athletics. The Hall of Legacy induction dinner will be held on Sept. 1 at 6 p.m. on Suite Level One in the Stadium Club at Jones AT&T Stadium.
The Hall of Legacy honors individuals and corporations who have made extraordinary and special contributions to Texas Tech athletics through means other than athletic participation.
Mickey and Renee Long have made a lasting impact both professionally and with Texas Tech Athletics. Both graduated from Angelo State University and went on to coaching and teaching careers in Post, Texas right out of college. The Longs went into the oil business in 1987 and developed their company Westex Well Services which works exclusively for Occidental Petroleum (OXY). Among their many contributions to Texas Tech, they have given generously to the Red Raider Club Scholarship Fund, Jones AT&T Stadium project, the Bob Knight Scholarship Fund. Mickey currently sits on the Red Raider Club National Board.
A native of Lubbock, Texas and a lifelong Red Raider, Larry Anders is a major financial backer for Texas Tech Athletics. Anders was a standout football player at Lubbock Coronado and earned a full scholarship to West Texas State (now West Texas A&M). Anders transferred to Texas Tech where he majored in business and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. In 2005, his company (Summit Alliance) provided the single largest annual gift ever to the Red Raider Club Scholarship Fund. The administration building in the south end zone was renamed the Summit Alliance Sports Administration Center to recognize the contribution. His commitments span from Jones AT&T Stadium, the Red Raider Club Scholarship Fund, to the Dave Brown Endowed Position and to various academic programs.
The third and final inductee into this year's Hall of Legacy class is Covenant Health System. Led by CEO Steve Hunter, Covenant Health System has become an influential player in the rise of Texas Tech Athletics over the last 10 years. The annual support to the Red Raider Club Scholarship Fund provided by Covenant ensures athletic and academic excellence for all Red Raider Student-Athletes. Covenant Health Systems' commitments to Jones AT&T Stadium have helped maintain a world class facility and the marketing and promotional efforts enhances the game day experience for the loyal Tech fan base.
Reservations for the Hall of Legacy dinner must be made through the Red Raider Club (806-742-1196) on or before Aug. 25. A table of eight can be purchase for $350 while individual tickets are $40 each. Business attire is required.
