THE ASU THUNDERBIRD FIELD
A consistent feature of each of Tech's tournaments during the 2006-07 season is a strong field, which the ASU Thunderbird Invitational will not be lacking. Nine of the field's 15 teams are ranked in the top 50 of the Golfweek/Sagarin performance index. Among the top 10 programs in the nation are Thunderbird competitors No. 5 Southern California and No. 7 UNLV.
Other top 50 teams in the field are No. 23 Arizona, No. 19 Arizona State, No. 36 Baylor, No. 40 UCF, No. 46 San Diego State, No. 15 Texas A&M and No. 35 Texas Tech. The remaining teams are No. 54 California, No. 101 Fresno State, No. 132 Kansas State, No. 58 New Mexico, No. 97 Oklahoma and No. 72 Oregon.
After having already faced many of the country's top golf programs during the season, Tech has also faced nearly all of the ASU Thunderbird's competition. The Red Raiders have a record of 11-17-1 (.379) against 11 of the teams. The Tech team has earned victories over Arizona, Baylor, UCF, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas A&M and UNLV. Facing the Red Raiders for the first time this season are Fresno State, Kansas State and San Diego State.
During Tech's last outing, the National Invitational Tournament, the team came up with wins against New Mexico and UNLV, while falling to Arizona, Arizona State and Texas A&M.
THE LAST TEE
April 3, 2007 TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Texas Tech men's golf team fired the second-lowest round of the National Invitational Tournament to improve 19 strokes from Monday's second round. The Red Raiders moved from a tie for 11th to finish sixth with scores of 291-295-276--862, 2-under-par.
