Two Red Raiders Named First Team Academic All-Big 12

LUBBOCK, Texas - In the midst of preparing for next week's Men's Big 12 Golf Championships, Texas Tech's Oscar Floren and Garrett Merrell have been named to the 2007 Academic All-Big 12 First Team.
Being named to the squad for the second consecutive season, Floren, a senior exercise sport science major from Ljungskile, Sweden, has been the Red Raiders most consistent player this season and recently achieved his 21 career top-10 finish at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational. He has averaged 70.88 strokes through nine events this year.
Merrell, a sophomore finance major from Dallas, owns one top-20 finish this season, as he tied for 20th at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate. He is currently fourth on the team with a 73.19 stroke average and has the second-lowest round with a 65.
Recipients were nominated by their institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices. To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his team's scheduled contests.
