LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech Athletics will take part in the Orange & Maroon Effect "Hokie Hope" on Friday, April 20, 2007 to honor the memories of those who tragically lost their lives in Monday's shootings on the Virginia Tech campus.
Texas Tech will have a 4-by-10 foot banner (donated by SignPro of Lubbock) on display and will give Red Raider fans an opportunity to sign the banner - offering their condolences. Texas Tech Head Coach Larry Hays, Athletics Director Gerald Myers, Texas Tech President John Whitmore and Texas Tech Chancellor Kent Hance will be the first to sign the banner at 5:30 p.m. The banner will be available for fans to sign all weekend long.
Texas Tech will also be providing maroon t-shirts with orange lettering ("Orange & Maroon Effect - Hokie Hope") to both baseball teams (Tech and Kansas) as well as both men's tennis teams (Tech and Oklahoma) who will be playing on Friday evening. The Texas Tech and Kansas baseball teams will wear the t-shirts during batting practice - beginning at 4:30 p.m. Additionally, both baseball teams will wear a special memorial sticker on the back of their batting helmets. The men's tennis teams will wear their t-shirts as part of their pre-game warm-ups.
Texas Tech is encouraging all fans that plan on attending Friday night's baseball game or the tennis match, to please wear orange and maroon in support of our friends at Virginia Tech.
