LUBBOCK, Texas - After trailing for much of the game, 5-1, Texas Tech battled back to post runs in the sixth and seventh, but it wasn't enough as Kansas beat Tech, 5-3, in the conclusion of their Big 12 series. The Jayhawks improve to 29-18-1, 5-8 on the season, while the Red Raiders drop to 18-23, 1-9.
Kassie Humphreys picked up her 15th win of the season as Kansas got their five runs in the first four frames off Tech starter, Ashly Jacobs. Both starters gave way, Humphreys to Sarah Vertelka for an inning and then to Valerie George who earned a save on the afternoon, and Jacobs to Sarah Losleben, who pitched well for four innings, scattering two hits and striking out five.
Jennifer Corkin smacked two home runs (as did the Jayhawks' Sara Ramirez) to help Tech keep pace, the first a solo shot to lead off the second and the second a blast to open the sixth. Leah Legler added two hits in the game for the Red Raiders and Brandy Moulin and Robyn Wike chipped in with singles. Tech picked up a run in the seventh when Heather Parker was hit by a pitch, advanced to third on a single by her sister Ashley Parker. After a sacrifice by Legler, H. Parker scored on an RBI ground-ball out from Montana Patin. Corkin's ground ball out was fielded cleanly by the Jayhawks' shortstop, Stevie Crisosto, and the rally ended.
The Red Raiders will try to get the ship corrected, heading back on the road for its final six Big 12 games. Tech plays a doubleheader at Texas on Thursday and then heads to Texas A&M for a weekend series with the Aggies.
