LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Department of Athletics received approval today from the Board of Regents for construction of various athletics facilities projects, beginning with the current installation of FieldTurf at Dan Law Field, home of Red Raider Baseball.
In addition to laying new turf at Dan Law Field, approval for renovations to the softball complex and a ribbon board at United Spirit Arena was granted.
"We are very appreciative of the board's support of these athletics projects," Texas Tech Director of Athletics Gerald Myers said. "This will assist in keeping our facilities current and improved. Facilities are critical in recruiting outstanding student-athletes. We are continuing to develop other improvements for the master plan of athletics facilities."
The installation at baseball will signal the third project on the Texas Tech campus by the FieldTurf corporation as similar products were installed at Jones AT&T Stadium and the new women's soccer complex. The project is expected to be completed by October 1.
Repair of the softball facility is underway with the construction of new dugouts and the addition of seats above the dugouts, bringing capacity to approximately 1,000. Additionally, a practice infield, new batting cages and a new fence are in the plans.
The ribbon board, slated for installation by the start of the upcoming basketball seasons, will give United Spirit Arena another dynamic visual that will serve sponsorship purposes and allow more creative opportunities with lineups, scores and statistics.
