LUBBOCK, Texas - Freshman Robyn Scott carded a seven-over 151 Tuesday to help put Texas Tech in fifth place with a plus-47 623 after the first day of the BYU Dixie Classic in St. George, Utah. Despite playing on two different courses in two different locales in less than 48 hours, the Lady Raiders are in the hunt for their fourth straight top-five finish.
Tournament host and No. 34-ranked BYU currently leads the event with a plus-nine 585. Nebraska sits 14-strokes back in second, while Colorado State, Oral Roberts and Tech round out the top five. Other teams in the field include Portland State, New Mexico State, Wyoming, Weber State, Southern Utah, Utah Valley State College and Idaho State.
After picking up their third-straight top-three finish Sunday, the Lady Raiders came out and carded a 304 to put them in fourth place after 18 holes. Scott birdied three holes en route to a one-over 73 to lead the way. Stephanie Smith, Megan Dowdy and Ulrika Van Niekerk all turned in 77's for the round.
Round two didn't turn out quite as well as Tech would have hoped with a 319, but the Lady Raiders still managed to keep itself in position for a top-five finish. Scott continued her steady play from the first round, but fell victim to a rough hole on no. 11. She currently sits in a tie for eighth place at seven-over 151 (73-78). Smith and Van Niekerk (77-80 - 157) are each tied for 25th, with Dowdy (77-81 - 158) close behind in 29th. Rosalyn Kim (83-28 - 165) concluded the scoring for Tech, while Alex Gibson (82-82 - 164) and Gloriana Soto (80-84 - 164) are competing individually.
The final 18 holes will tee off Wednesday morning, with live stats available via www.golfstat.com.
