LUBBOCK, Texas - For one night this month Texas Tech student-athletes will trade in their uniforms and athletic equipment for dancing shoes and the microphone as the Student-Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Special Olympics Texas host the Texas Tech Student-Athlete Talent Show on Thursday at 7 p.m.
The Allen Theater on the Tech campus will host the event, which is a partnership between Texas Tech and Special Olympics Texas. Admission is $5 with a valid Texas Tech ID card and $7 for the general public. All proceeds will directly benefit Special Olympics Texas.
"We encourage everyone in the community to come out, enjoy a good time and help us raise money and awareness for Special Olympics," Texas Tech's Champs/Life Skills Coordinator Angie McKinnell said. "This unique experience will not only raise money for the local Special Olympics organization, but it will also help us stand out among our competitors in the Big 12 Conference."
The Big 12 Conference has built a relationship with Special Olympics and is encouraging all conference schools to get involved in the initiative. In addition to the student-athletes' performances, Special Olympic athletes also will display their talents on stage.
In addition to the Special Olympic athletes and Texas Tech student-athletes, administrative personnel from athletics and across campus will serve as judges for the event.
