Student-Athlete Talent Show A Rousing Success!

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech student-athletes teamed up with Special Olympics Texas and the Student-Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) to host the Texas Tech Student-Athlete Talent Show Thursday night at the Allen Theater on the Tech campus.
With all proceeds benefitting Special Olympics, Tech student-athletes raised over $1200 with unique performances featuring a balancing act of golf clubs, an out-of-the ballpark attempt at ventriloquism and a glowing Texas Tech Softball team.
All 17 sports were represented with Shawon Harris as the master of ceremonies. Sophomore linebacker, Brian Duncan, started the night off with his own rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.
The judges for the night's performances were Texas Tech Director of Athletics, Gerald Myers, The Masked Rider, Ronald Phillips of the University Council, Ari Mazumdar of the Student Government Association and Nina Turnage-Adams, a Special Olympics representative.
The show also included special performances from Special Olympic participants: Riane Deaton, Amy Wilson and Emily Wilson.
At the end of the night, Nils Floren, of men's golf, took home the first place trophy for his golf club balancing act while the softball team placed second and the women's basketball team came in third with a colorful, dynamic team dance.
The student-athlete talent show will be held annually in order to continue to raise money for Special Olympics.
