Red Raiders Travel To Play In Lobo Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech looks to shake off a six game losing streak as the Red Raiders travel to Albuquerque, N.M., to participate in the Lobo Invitational Feb. 20-22. Tech faces Drake and Wisconsin on Fri., Feb 20, before taking on host New Mexico on Saturday and Wisconsin in an evening game. The Red Raiders will conclude the tournament on Sunday against New Mexico. (Originally a championship format tournament, the schedule was set yesterday to accommodate travel arrangements of teams.)
No Jitters for Gentsch
Freshman catcher Holley Gentsch is off to a strong start for the 2009 season with six hits, two doubles, one home run, and a team leading seven RBI. She has also caught two runners stealing and picked off another.
On the Road Again
Texas Tech does not play its first home contest until March 10 as it spends the first five weekends on the road. The Red Raiders 2009 schedule features just 10 home games and 46 games away from Rocky Johnson Field. The teams travels take them to Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, and Florida twice all before conference play begins.
Legler Leads Team In Hits And Is Climbing The Charts
Leah Legler leads the team with nine hits on the season, including going 3-3 against Stanford pitcher Missy Pena at the ASU Kajikawa Classic on the openeing weekend of play. Legler is climbing the all-time Texas Tech career record list as she currently sits third in batting average and sixth all-time in triples.
The Competition
New Mexico (3-5) went 2-3 over the weekend at the Getterman Classic earning wins over Texas-San Antonio and Northwestern State, while dropping games to Baylor, Stephen F. Austin and Mississippi.
Drake (4-1) opened the 2009 season at the Metrodome Classic in Minneapolis over the weekend. The Bulldogs went 4-1 beating Green Bay, Arkansas, Western Illinois and Minnesota.
The Wisconsin Badgers (2-6) went 2-2 over the weekend at the Bama Bash getting wins over East Carolina and Notre Dame, while dropping contest to East Carolina and No. 1 Alabama.
Series Records
Texas Tech holds a 1-0 advantage over Drake.
This is the first ever meeting between Tech and Wisconsin.
The series between Texas Tech and New Mexico is tied at 14-14.
