Red Raiders Look To Turn It Around In Florida

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech looks to bounce back from a 3-10 start this weekend as it heads back to Gainesville, Fla., to participate in the Florida Cox Communications Invitational. The Red Raiders will face Illinois and South Florida on Fri., Feb. 27, before taking on Pacific and host No. 2 Florida on Saturday. Tech rounds out the invite as it faces Pacific for the second time on Sunday.
Rocket Blasts The Hits
Despite missing four games this season, freshman Stephanie Drewry leads the Red Raiders in batting average hitting a sultry .419 with 13 hits, which ranks her third in the Big 12.
Watkins Goes Two
Senior Alex Watkins has hit a career high four doubles this season, three coming last weekend at the New Mexico Invitational.
Individual Hitting A High Point For Texas Tech
Texas Tech is one of only four schools to have at least three players rank in the top 20 of Big 12 individual batting. Stephanie Drewry is batting .419, Elizabeth Eimen is hitting .382, and Megan Shupp is batting .342, all three lead the team in hitting as well. The other schools to post at least three players are Baylor (3), Nebraska (4), and Oklahoma (3).

The Competition
Illinois (10-4) went 5-0 over the weekend at the Marriott Houston Classic earning wins over McNeese State, No. 18 Houston, Prairie View A&M, Northern Illinois, and No. 19 Texas A&M.
South Florida (10-5) earned the USF The Game tournament title this past weekend going 4-1 with wins over Eastern Michigan, Rhode Island, Jacksonville State, FAMU, while dropping a game to Albany. This will be the first time USF has played away from home during the 2009 season.
The Pacific Tigers (5-4) went 4-0 over the weekend earning wins over Saint Mary's, Santa Clara, and Cal State Bakersfield.
Florida (12-2) went 4-1 over the weekend at the Cathedral City Classic in Palm Springs, Calif. The Gators picked up wins over Fresno State, Arizona State, Nevada and UNLV while dropping a contest to No. 3 Washington.
Series Records
Texas Tech holds a 2-0 advantage over Illinois.
This is the first ever meeting between Tech and South Florida.
The Red Raiders hold the series advantage over Pacific, 3-1.
Florida leads the series against Tech, 3-0, including a 11-0 victory earlier this season.
