Tech Splits Doubleheader With Texas State
April 13, 2009 | Softball
Game one unfolded thusly: Texas Tech got on the board first in the third, when Elizabeth Eimen singled and advanced to second on an error. Stephanie Drewry singled moving Eimen to third, and with two on Skyler Peterson singled up the middle to score Eimen and give Tech the advantage, 1-0.
Texas State tied the game in the fourth at one run apiece on a solo home run which bounced off the top of the right field wall by Jenna Emery.
Still tied at one run apiece in the top of the ninth and with the international tiebreaker in play, Danielle Matthews laid down a bunt to advance Emily Bledsoe (who had been placed at second to open the frame) to third and reached first on a sacrifice error. The next two batters for Tech were sent back to the dugout without plating any runners. The leadoff batter Eimen drew a walk to load the bases, and with two outs Drewry slapped a shot past the second baseman to score both Bledsoe and Matthews.
Ashly Jacobs pitched all nine innings for Tech to pick up her ninth win of the season.
In game two, the Red Raiders scored first on a solo home run by Bledsoe, the first of her career and this one coming from the left side. Texas State rallied in the bottom of the third scoring two runs on four hits to go ahead, 2-1.
Tech was unable to plate any more runs, and Texas State picked up three more runs in the sixth on a solo home run and a key double to take the win, 5-1. Alex Watkins suffered the loss for Tech.
Texas State improves to 29-14 with the win in game two, while Texas Tech falls to 14-33 on the season.
The Red Raiders return home to face the University of Texas in a single game on Wednesday at 3 p.m. CT. Fans are encouraged to make plans now to attend the game, as those wearing Texas Tech apparel will be able to purchase tickets for the special price of $1.
