Red Raiders Set To Square Off Against Kansas

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech will return to Rocky Johnson Field to face the Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT, and on Sunday at 12 p.m. CT. Saturdays game will be an Alumni Reunion day with former Red Raiders returning to take part in a pre-game ceremony. Senior Alex Watkins leads the Red Raiders from behind the plate and in the circle, hitting three home runs over the weekend and striking out a career high 10 batters against UTSA.
Watkins Puts On A Clinic
Red Raider senior Alex Watkins put on a clinic in the 9-1 victory over UTSA. Watkins had a two-RBI double, a two-run home run, and three-run home run to pace Tech in the win. To go along with her accomplishments at the plate, she also struck out a career high 10 batters, to earn her third victory of the year in the circle. Her 7 RBIs sets a new all-time Texas Tech single game record, previously held by Jennifer Corkin who had six against Nevada in 2007.
Shupp Lights Up The Big 12
Against the Big 12 Conference, Megan Shupp is batting .412 with seven hits, four doubles, and one home run. She leads the conference in doubles against Big 12 opponents.
Lead Off Legler
Leah Legler shook off her recent 2-28 slump, going 4-4 against UTSA with four singles, three of those hits led off the inning for Tech. Legler also brought home the game-winning run against Iowa State as she hit a deep sacrafice-fly to center field to score Skyler Peterson.
Face Time
At any give time, Texas Tech has as many as four freshman out on the field: Emily Bledsoe, Stephanie Drewry, Holley Gentsch, and Ashley Hamada. They are definitely taking advantage of the opportunity as Drewry is second on the team in hits with 42, Bledsoe has 13 RBIs with three doubles and two triples, Gentsch has 21 RBIs with five doubles a triple and a home run, while Hamada as 14 hits and two doubles.
Scouting Kansas
The Jayhawks enter this weekend with an overall record of 11-20. On Wednesday, Kansas split a double header with No. 11 Missouri to earn its first conference win. Val Chapple leads the Jayhawks batting .330 with 29 hits and 16 RBIs. In the circle, Kansas is led by Val George with a record 7-11 and an ERA of 2.90. KU leads the overall series 23-9 and is 10-5 in Lubbock.
