LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Athletics Department held its first Student-Athlete Thank-A-Thon on Wednesday night at the Texas Tech Athletics Sales Call Center.
"We are excited about this initial opportunity for our student-athletes to reach out first hand via phone directly to our generous Red Raider Club donors," said Amy McBride, Assistant Athletics Director/Red Raider Club. "This is an exciting opening step, and we realize it will be equally important to reach out to each donor that contributes to the Red Raider Scholarship Fund throughout the rest of the academic year."
Student-athletes who are members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee participated in a two-hour Thank-A-Thon where they called Red Raider Club members who donate annual contributions to the Red Raider Scholarship Fund - the exclusive scholarship fund for Texas Tech Athletics.
"Making these calls tonight to the donors means a lot to me," stated women's golfer Alex Gibson. "For them to give out of the kindness of their hearts shows they appreciate all our hard work and we are all grateful for that."
The student-athletes were able to call approximately 500 donors in the two-hour time frame to thank them for all their annual contributions and support.
Red Raider Scholarship Fund donors should know that regardless of their gift amount and/or if they received a call this evening, their contributions make a difference in the student-athletes lives. The next time the phone rings, it might very well be a Texas Tech student-athlete calling to say thank you.
"I most definitely appreciate the Red Raider Scholarship Fund," football player Brian Duncan said. "It has given me the opportunity to succeed not only on the field, but in the community and in the classroom as well. I will leave Texas Tech with two degrees in marketing and management, and all of the donors' support is allowing me to do so. I give glory to God for each donation as it will help me be very successful in the future."
