Texas Tech Shuts Out Southern Miss

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Lady Raiders (4-3) shut out the Lady Golden Eagles of Southern Mississippi (3-3) on Friday evening at the Tatum Park and Racquet Club in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, 7-0.
It was the first road win for the squad and their first shut out of the season.
Texas Tech won two of the three doubles matches and all six singles matches.
In No. 1 doubles, Kelsy Garland and Elizabeth Ullathorne defeated Vroni van Berlo and Elja van Berlo, 8-6. Tech's No.3 doubles pair of Natalie Leitch and Lorena Aviles secured the point in doubles play with an 8-3 win over Zoe Lee and Frances Askew.
The Lady Golden Eagles won their only match of the day at No. 2 doubles as Lauren Gutterman and Stephanie Dellocono stopped Tech's Stefanie Peana and Caroline Starck, 8-1.
In singles play, the Lady Raiders won all of their matches in two sets.
At No. 1 singles, Sandra Dynka defeated Vroni van Berlo, 6-2, 6-1. Elizabeth Ullathorne won her No. 2 match over Stephanie Dellocono, 6-4, 6-2. Junior Kelsy Garland defeated Elja van Berlo at the third singles position, 6-1, 6-4. At the No. 4 spot, Natalie Leitch downed Lauren Gutterman, 6-4, 7-5. Caroline Starck defeated Zoe Lee, 6-4, 6-1, to claim the No. 5 singles match. Lorena Aviles shut out Frances Askew at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
On Saturday, Texas Tech travels to Oxford, Mississippi, as they take on the nationally ranked Rebels of the University of Mississippi. The match with the #18 squad from Ole Miss begins at 1 p.m.
After the squad returns from Mississippi, Texas Tech travels to Reno next weekend for matches against Nevada-Reno and the University of San Francisco.
The Lady Raiders return home for their opening conference match against Baylor on March 3 at 3 p.m. at the McLeod Tennis Center.
