LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech Softball, which is off to its best start ever at 10-1, was forced to cancel a pair of home games with UTSA because of the snow currently blanketing the region. The team rapped out 51 hits in finishing with a .321 team average in their six games with Maine and UMKC over the past weekend.
Heading indoors for some practice away from the cold, the team now looks to a four-game road trip for potential action, as the schedule finds the team rolling into Arlington for tournament games with Texas Southern, Prairie View A&M and the host, UTA squad. The Red Raiders are scheduled to face Texas Southern (2-0) on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 5:30 p.m. followed by Prairie View A&M (1-3) and UT Arlington (7-3) on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively. Tech will then move up the road to Denton to take on North Texas (2-3) for a single game on Monday, March 1 at 1 p.m. before heading home.
Both Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M have been effected by weather as each team has already lost four games from their early seasons. Teri Lyles leads UTA in both offense and in the circle as she boasts a .379 average and is 3-1 in 29.2 innings pitched. Cara Hulme has a 4-2 record for the Mavericks in 35 innings pitched, which has lost to Big 12 teams Baylor and Oklahoma State thus far in 2010.
