Lady Raiders In Contention After First Round

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's golf team sits in third place after first round play in the Mountainview Collegiate Invitational in Tucson, Arizona. The Lady Raider's posted a team score of 296 (+8) led by Gabby Dominguez's 71 (-1) on the 6,277 yard course.
Dominguez got hot after a slow start scoring a 38 on the front nine. She came out on the back nine making birdies and ended up with a 33, tied with the low back nine score posted by co- tournament leader Kelsey Vines of Brigham Young. Dominguez individually stands in a tie for third with her 71 (-1), one shot off leaders Kelsey Vines and Sacramento State's Julie Shutler.
"It was great to see Gabby get it going on the back nine," said Coach JoJo Robertson. "That's what we need from her all the time."
Besides Dominguez producing for Texas Tech, Beverly Mendoza is tied for 12th place individually after posting a two over par 74. Other Lady Raider's scores include Kim Kaufman 75 (+3), Jackie Smith 76 (+4), and Alex Gibson 79 (+7).
Texas Tech statistically stands in good position as the team finished the first day of competition tied for second in birdies with 13, first in Par 5 scoring with an aggregate of one under par, and tied for first in Par 5 scoring with an aggregate of three under par.
Texas Tech is five shots back of leader Brigham Young who posted a team score of 291 (+3) and four shots back of second position held by Colorado State at 292 (+4). Other teams on the Lady's Raider's trail include UNLV at 298 (+10), Sacramento State 299 (+11), and San Jose State at 300 (+12). Tournament host University of Colorado is in a tie for seventh place at (+14) with Baylor University.
The Lady Raider's are in decent position, which JoJo Robertson is well aware.
"We're close to where we would like to be," she said. "We just need to play a little more consistent if we want to win"
