Men's Golf Seven-Under Heading Into Final Round

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech golfer Tyler Weworski fired under-par rounds of 70 and 69 on the opening day of The Aggie Invitational, leading the No. 14 Red Raiders to a third-place standing. The final round gets underway Sunday at 8 a.m. at the Traditions Golf Club in College Station, Texas.
Weworski, a sophomore from Carlsbad, Calif., carded a 2-under 70 and followed with a near flawless second round 69. He managed five birdies and three bogeys in the first and four birdies and a bogey in the second. Weworski is 5-under for the tournament and is one shot off of the lead, held by Tom Berry of San Diego State.
Nils Floren, ranked No. 8 nationally, is 1-under for the tournament with rounds of 73-70 and tied in 15th place, while No. 27 Chris Ward is tied in 17th place and is even for the event. Brian Scherer began the second round standing along in third, but suffered through the second with a 77. He is 1-over on the tournament and tied in 22nd place. Matt Smith also is tied in 22nd place, but was steady on the day with a 72-73. Finley Ewing IV is tied in 57th place and is 8-over.
The host Aggies hold a commanding 15-stroke lead on their home course over No. 1 Oklahoma State. The Cowboys shot 8-under in the two rounds and lead Texas Tech in thid place by a stroke. No. 30 San Diego State is five shots behind Tech and No. 7 Texas is nine strokes back of the Aztecs.
No. 43 New Mexico, No. 24 TCU, No. 47 Kent State, No. 42 SMU and Baylor round out the top 10, respetively. Colorado and UTSA are 11th and 12th.
