LUBBOCK, Texas - Four Red Raiders will travel to Lawrence, Kan., to represent Texas Tech at the inaugural Big 12 Conference "Today's Champions-Tomorrow's Leaders" Leadership Summit, July 16-18, at the Oread Hotel. The summit is hosted by the University of Kansas Athletic Department.
Paul Julmeus (track and field), Ifeatu Okafor (track and field), Aleah Hayes (volleyball) and Robert Lewandowski (basketball) were nominated to participate in the Leadership Summit for exuding qualities of leadership and commitment to service.
A committee including Big 12 staff, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Chair and Vice Chair and the host institution selected four nominated individuals from each school in the Big 12 Conference. Final selections embraced the conference's commitment of involving a diverse group of student-athletes who have demonstrated a desire to lead.
The Big 12 Conference Leadership Summit is a concept that originated by the Big 12 SAAC with assistance from the Dr. Prentice Gautt Student-Athlete Welfare Committee in 2007. The program is funded by the Big 12 Conference Board of Directors. The purpose of the summit is to provide an opportunity for student-athletes in the Big 12 Conference to develop leadership skills and to promote leadership development opportunities for student-athletes at conference member institutions.
