LUBBOCK, Texas - Seven strokes was all that separated the No. 46 Texas Tech women's golf team from securing one of eight advancing spots into the 2010 NCAA Championships. The Lady Raiders concluded their season in a tie for ninth place today at the NCAA East Regional in Greenville, N.C.
Although the team did not advance, Texas Tech senior Rosalyn Kim will move on to the NCAA Championships May 18-21 in Wilmington, N.C. as an individual medalist as she finished the tournament in third place. Kim ended the tournament 4-under par after firing rounds of 70, 69 and 73 for a three-round total of 212. This will mark her first career appearance at the NCAA Championships.
"To say the least we are pretty disappointed as we certainly had our chances today," said Texas Tech head coach JoJo Robertson. "Although we are a little hurt, I couldn't be prouder of this group and what they accomplished. We have a young team and I thought they played well all year and it will be fun to watch them over the next few years as they grow and mature into what we hope will be something very special. For Rosalyn, I am so pleased that she will get the chance to go to the championships in this her final year."
Freshman Gabby Dominguez and Beverly Mendoza posted the second highest finishes on the team as they tied for 48th at 7-over.
South Carolina claimed the regional championship and will be joined in Wilmington by qualifiers Tennessee, Auburn, Duke, Vanderbilt, Tulane, Pepperdine and TCU.
