Beal Named Assistant Athletic Director For Media Relations

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech University Director of Athletics Gerald Myers today (June 16) named Blayne Beal the department's assistant athletic director of media relations. Beal had been serving in the role on an interim basis for the last month.
Beal recently completed his 10th year in the athletic media relations office, where he has served as the department contact for baseball and assisted in the promotion of Texas Tech's nationally prominent football program.
"Blayne has been an integral part of our communications efforts for 10 years and we are pleased to have him step in this role as our assistant athletic director of media relations," Myers said. "He is one of the best in his field and brings to the department a new and innovative approach to publicizing our athletic programs."
Since his arrival at Texas Tech, he has claimed two "Best In The Nation" publication honors and three top three finishes giving the Texas Tech Media Relations office its first-ever national publication awards. He served as Press Officer for Team USA Baseball at the 2005 IBAF World Cup in Holland and was part of the Team USA Staff at the 2007 World University Games in Bangkok, Thailand.
Prior to coming to Texas Tech, Beal worked under College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Hall of Famer Bud Ford at the University of Tennessee as a graduate assistant in the men's athletics department. While at Tennessee, Beal served as the media contact for the Volunteer baseball and tennis teams.
While in college, he spent two years in the Tech Media Relations office as a student assistant where he served as the media contact for softball. During the 1998 college football bowl season, he served an internship with the FedEx Orange Bowl in Miami, Fla.
A native of Honey Grove, Texas, Beal is a lifelong Red Raider. He earned a bachelor's degree in public relations from Texas Tech in 1999, before receiving a master's in sports management from the University of Tennessee in 2001.
