LUBBOCK, Texas -
The official Texas Tech Athletics Facebook fan page http://www.facebook.com/ttuathletics has hit 25,000 loyal fans with 24,000 fans following in the United States and 1,000 in 20 other countries, including Germany, Spain, France, Maylasia, Argentina and Korea.
Texas Tech Athletics uses the social networking sites Facebook and Twitter to promote gameday information, live score updates, special promotions and ticket offers to fans in a way that instantly connects with thousands, typically directly to their cell phone. Both social media sites are interactive which allows fans to feel a sense of connection to our sports and department.
Fans are able to post comments, photos and videos as well as participate in polls, surveys and discussions while Twitter allows our fans to see real time updates in a short, simple way. Fans are able to repost and share with others the information we place out on both sites.
During the 2009 Red Raider Football season, military personnel serving in Afghanistan had an opportunity to get live score updates, see pictures and videos as well as provide their comments.
Facebook gives our department guidance on what our users expect to see on our page and how to keep everyone active. We want to make sure that our page is fresh with up to date information so that our fans keep coming back to visit. Fans can also see advertisements as tabs on the main wall page giving them an opportunity to interact directly and get information about 2010 Football season tickets, the Red Raider Club and Tech Mobile.
