Three Lady Raiders Earn Academic All-Big 12 Honors

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Big 12 Conference has named 46 student-athletes to the 2011 Academic All-Big 12 Women's Basketball Team, the league office announced. Texas Tech junior Jordan Barncastle and sophomore Mary Bokenkamp were named to the first team, while redshirt freshman Shauntal Nobles was a second team honoree.
Barncastle, who hails from Martin's Mill, Texas, has a 3.24 cumulative grade-point average as she is majoring in biology. Barncastle is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 first team selection.
Receiving her first Academic All-Big 12 honor is Bokenkamp, a native of Parker, Colo. Bokenkamp is majoring in exercise science with a 3.86 GPA. The Haslet, Texas, native Nobles was honored as a second-team member with a 3.18 GPA as she is majoring in business.
Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and media relations offices, the women's basketball academic all-league squad consisted of 30 first team members combined with 16 on the second team. First team members have recorded a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second team is those with a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To quality, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or in the two previous semesters and have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participations are also eligible.
