LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech women's golfers Gabby Dominguez and Kim Kaufman both recorded even-par 73 cards during the final round of the Kinderlou Challenge Tuesday, propelling the duo into the top 20.
After a tough second round on Monday, Tech rebounded early in its round as the Lady Raiders were even-par as a team through most of the front nine thanks in part to the play of Dominguez and Kaufman.
Starting at hole No. 12, Dominguez wrapped the tournament in a tie for 13th overall after sinking an eagle on the par-five 18th to go along with two birdies on the back nine. She finished nine-over for the tournament.
Kaufman pared 15 of 18 holes during the final round while adding a couple of birdies as she finished just inside the top 20 in a tie for 19th overall at 11-over-par.
After firing a 1-under front nine, Alex Gibson finished the day with a 5-over 78 card that moved the senior to 14-over for the tournament and in a tie for 31st overall. Like Gibson, Hannah Arnold began the day with a solid front nine, but a few double bogeys down the stretch left the freshman with a 10-over 83 final round. Tech's lone remaining player, Deborah DeVilla, added her second-consecutive 11-over 84 card.
As a team, Tech recorded its best card of the tournament Wednesday, firing a 15-over 307, moving the Lady Raiders into a tie for 10th overall with Illinois. Chattanooga claimed the tournament title following a 2-under 290 final round, finishing nine strokes better than second-place Coastal Carolina, the second round leader.
The Lady Raiders return to the links in less than a week as they travel to the Sun Trust Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. Tech will play two rounds on Sunday and conclude the tournament on Monday morning.
