Aly Sartini Promoted to Associate Head Coach

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech head softball coach Shanon Hays announced Thursday the promotion of assistant coach Aly Sartini to the title of associate head coach, effective immediately.
Sartini is in her second season directing the Red Raider pitching staff along with the program's outfielders. She also assists in Tech's recruiting efforts and serves as the academic and travel coordinator.
"This has been something I planned on doing since I got here," Hays said. "Aly has done a great job handling our pitching staff, and she is a true professional who represents Texas Tech well. This move is great for both Aly and our program, and we are excited about the future of Texas Tech Softball."
A Galt, Calif. native, Sartini made a quick impact on the Tech pitching staff in her first season, cutting the team earned-run average in half. Behind ace pitcher Ashly Jacobs, Tech finished with a 2.42 ERA in 2010, the school's lowest total since the 2001 season.
With three newcomers in the circle this season, the Red Raiders have recorded a 2.40 ERA entering this weekend's home series against No. 13 Oklahoma. Tech has also posted two no-hitters from freshmen Brittany Talley and Kermitria Ward, while junior college transfer Kelsey Dennis has thrown three complete game one-hitters to this point.
"I can't tell you how excited and blessed I am to be named associate head coach here at Texas Tech," Sartini said. "I am grateful for Coach Hays and the opportunities he has provided for me here and the ability to grow in my career as a coach. I would like to thank Judi Henry and Coach (Gerald) Myers for their continued support of Tech Softball, and I also look forward to working with our new athletics director Kirby Hocutt. I'm proud to be a Red Raider and part of the Texas Tech family. Tech is taking great strides in the softball world and I am grateful to be part of it."
Sartini arrived at Tech after a successful five-year stint at her alma mater, Arkansas, where the Razorbacks earned consecutive NCAA postseason berths during her final two seasons. During her time, Sartini directed the program's pitchers, hitters, and outfielders, while also overseeing the program's summer camps and various business functions.
A member of Arkansas' inaugural team in 1997, Sartini was the ultimate utility player for the Razorbacks, playing three infield positions (second, third and shortstop) while also spending time in the circle as Arkansas advanced to three Southeastern Conference tournaments and an NCAA regional berth.
An All-SEC selection in 1999, Sartini still ranks third all-time for assists in Arkansas history and ranks near the top of the record book for walks and sacrifices. She was part of the infield combination that still shares the NCAA record for doubles plays in a game with four turned on March 21, 1999.
Sartini began her career at Birmingham-Southern College where she was an assistant coach for three years.
