LUBBOCK, Texas - Coming off its first tournament title of the season, the Texas Tech women's golf team looks to repeat the performance this weekend at the Big 12 Championships, which begins Friday morning at The Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia, Mo.
The Lady Raiders enter the three-day conference tournament with plenty of momentum after winning the Baylor Invitational only a week ago. Tech maintained a double-digit stroke lead throughout the second and third rounds en route to the program's second victory under second-year head coach JoJo Robertson.
Tech received consistency throughout its lineup as three players finished in the top 10, led by individual champion Alex Gibson. Tech's lone senior on its roster, Gibson fired consecutive under-par rounds to close the tournament, marking her second career individual title at Tech.
Gabby Dominguez has likely been Tech's most reliable player all spring as the sophomore has finished in the top 20 of all six tournaments. She enters the conference championships with three-straight top five finishes after wrapping the Baylor Invitational in a tie for fifth overall.
Kim Kaufman is also coming off her best performance of the spring as she recorded her first top 10 finish in Waco, giving her four tournaments in the top 20 this spring. Tech will also send Deborah DeVilla, who finished just outside the top 20 at the Baylor Invitational, and Hannah Arnold.
The Lady Raiders finished fifth at the Big 12 Championships last year, which ultimately led to an NCAA Regional berth. The performance marked Tech's highest finish at the conference championship since ending the 1999 tournament in third, which is still the best finish in school history.
Tech comes into the tournament ranked 46th in the nation by Golfstat and 50th by Golfweek. The Lady Raiders will tee off from the 10th hole at 8 a.m. Friday.
