LUBBOCK, Texas - A day after taking the opening round lead at the Big 12 Women's Golf Championships, Texas Tech dropped to fifth Saturday following an 8-over 296 second round at The Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia, Mo.
Despite dropping down the leaderboard, the Lady Raiders remain in contention entering Sunday's final round as Tech trails first place Texas by seven strokes at 14-over-par.
Deborah DeVilla continued her strong play from Friday with an even-par 72, falling to a five-way tie for second at 1-under. She trails Texas' Madison Pressel who fired a tournament-best 6-under 66 to take a six stroke lead into the final round.
Kim Kaufman remained in the top 20 as well, finishing 1-over on the day to move to 3-over for the tournament and in a tie for 15th overall.
After her best round of the season Friday, Hannah Arnold dropped out of the top 10 with a 6-over 77 round that puts her in a tie for 28th at 7-over. Gabby Dominguez trails the freshman by two strokes after her second-straight 4-over round.
Tech's last remaining player, Alex Gibson, rebounded from a difficult first round to record a 3-over card, moving to 10-over for the tournament.
Texas and Iowa State both fired under-par rounds to move to the top of the standings as the Longhorns went 1-under to move to 7-over for the tournament while the Cyclones shot a tournament best 3-under to sit two strokes back. Texas A&M and Missouri are tied at 12-over for third.
The Lady Raiders will look to climb the leaderboard in Sunday's final round as the entire field will tee off at 8 a.m. in order to avoid potential weather expected in the Columbia area.
