LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's golf team earned its second-straight postseason selection Monday as the Lady Raiders were picked to play in the NCAA East Regional, May 5-7, at the LPGA International Legends Course in Daytona Beach, Fla.
"We're obviously excited to continue playing," said head coach JoJo Robertson, who has led Tech to a regional berth in each of her two seasons. "This group has played well all spring and it's an honor any time you get to advance to a regional. I don't think our team is satisfied with just making a regional, though, and hopefully we will play well once we get to Florida."
Tech was picked as the 15th seed in the 24-team regional which also boasts Big 12 foe Colorado as the No. 11 seed. Alabama earned the top seed in the regional, which is hosted by Stetson University and the Central Florida Sports Commission, followed by Purdue, California, Arizona State, and Auburn.
One of seven Big 12 schools to advance to the postseason, Tech's selection is its 12th in school history and third in the past four seasons. Tech came close to advancing past the regional round a year ago, finishing ninth, a few strokes shy of the NCAA Championships. The Lady Raiders have never advanced past the regional round as a team in school history.
Tech is coming off a sixth place finish this past weekend at the Big 12 Championships in Columbia, Mo., one week after winning the Baylor Invitational. The Lady Raiders have placed in the top 10 of each of their past four tournaments.
The top eight teams and top two individuals from each regional will advance to the NCAA Championships, held May 18-21 at the Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas.
