Tech Set for First Round of Big 12 Championship

WACO, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team will look to continue one of the best seasons in school history as it will travel to Waco, Texas, for the Big 12 Championships being held at the Baylor Tennis Center.
Tech (17-7, 7-4) will play its opening round match at 10 a.m. on Thurs., April 28 against Iowa State (11-13, 1-10). The two teams have played previously, with Tech taking the match 6 to 1 in Lubbock back on April 8.
The Lady Raiders finished tied for fourth place with a 7-4 record in the Big 12. The seven conference wins are tied for the most in school history. The fourth-place position is also the best place in conference history. The 17 overall victories are the third-most in program history.
Tech has had strong play all season in doubles action. The squad has won the doubles point 16 times on the season. Nikki Sanders and Caroline Starck have the best record at 16-4 but Haley Fournier and Elizabeth Ullathorne equal their wins with a 16-5 record.
In singles play, Starck has the most wins with 17 in the spring followed by Samantha Adams who has 16 victories. Sanders' has the best record in conference play at 8-3.
The quarterfinal round of the Big 12 tournament is the farthest Tech has ever advanced. No. 22 Oklahoma awaits the winner of Tech and Iowa State.
