Trenten Hilburn To Join Athletics Communications Team

LUBBOCK, Texas - Trenten Hilburn, director of media relations at the Sun Bowl Association for the last eight years, will join the Texas Tech Athletics Communications team as associate director on June 15.
Hilburn, 40, will be directly responsible for the communications efforts for men's basketball and men's tennis and will assist the department in multimedia efforts.

"Trenten understands the progressive nature of this business and is committed to our goal of building a premier athletics program. His vast experience at the Sun Bowl will help provide new perspectives for our team as we continue to grow and improve our communications efforts."
Hilburn has coordinated media efforts for 25 various SBA events, while serving as the tournament director for the Sun Bowl Volleyball Invitational and the Bank of the West Don Haskins Sun Bowl Invitational, the nation's oldest collegiate holiday basketball tournament. He also served as the tournament coordinator for the Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic and served as the liaison of CBS' production of the Hyundai Sun Bowl.
He was also instrumental in the re-launch of the Association's website and its branding efforts on social media platforms.
Prior to his arrival at the Sun Bowl Association, Hilburn served as the assistant media relations director at UTEP from 2000-03. Hilburn's responsibilities with the Miners include serving as the primary media contact for volleyball, softball, tennis and rifle, while serving as the secondary contact for football and men's basketball. He served as editor for the UTEP football and men's basketball game programs. His 2002 UTEP Rifle Media Guide was named "Best In The Nation."
Hilburn served as sports information director at Southeastern Oklahoma State University for the 1999-2000 athletic year. He was sports information director at McMurry University from 1996-99. He was associate sports information director at Hardin-Simmons University, his alma mater, from 1994-96.
A 10-year veteran of the military, Hilburn has received three Air Force achievement medals, as well as numerous other decorations. From 1991-93, he worked on six of seven continents with the Air Force, including a stint at the South Pole (Operation Deep Freeze) and a six-month stay in Africa and Southwest Asia (Operation Restore Hope). From 1989-91, he participated in Operation Desert Storm (Saudi Arabia) and Operation Provide Relief (Turkey).
A native of Claremore, Okla., Hilburn received his bachelor's degree in public relations from Hardin-Simmons in 1996. He was also named to The El Paso Times' 40 Under 40 list in 2004.
