LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech Athletics and the Marsha Sharp Center encourage all former Red Raiders who have exhausted their athletic eligibility without completing their degree to apply for institutional financial aid from the NCAA Division I Degree Completion Award program.
The program, established to assist such former student-athletes, is available to all student-athletes who have completed eligibility at a DI institution, were enrolled originally in or before January 2007, have exhausted eligibility for athletics-related aid (five years) and who are within 30 semester hours or 45 quarter units from completing their undergraduate degrees.
"We have had several former student athletes return to Texas Tech to finish their degrees," said Felicia Martin, Associate Athletic Director for Academics and Student Services. "We are excited to see them come back and the Marsha Sharp Center is here to support them.Once a Red Raider, always a Red Raider!"
Student-athletes who earn the award will receive an amount equivalent to tuition and fees, and which will also feature a book allowance based on the number of hours in which they are enrolled.
The NCAA Division I Degree-Completion Award application for the winter/spring/summer 2012 terms is now available at www.ncaa.org.The application deadline is September 23, 2011.Contact Justin Paysinger, Director of Student Athlete Affairs at 806 742 0150 for additional information or details or for assistance with the process.
