Lubbock, Texas - The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the Red Raider Life Skills program have partnered with the Soles 4 Souls project.
Soles 4 Souls is a Nashville-based charity that collects gently worn or newer shoes to provide shoes to those in need. The non-profit organization collects all types of shoes from running shoes, cleats, and sandals to high heels and slippers and then distributes them to more than 120 countries, including to areas within the United States.
It is estimated that throughout the world more than 300 million children are without shoes, roughly the same estimate as shoes which fill landfills each year. Student-athlete leaders, compelled by stories of children unable to attend school because of a lack of footwear, will be collecting donations of shoes at various locations throughout Texas Tech Athletics' facilities.
Gently used shoes of any kind may be left in donation boxes located in the Marsha Sharp Center lobby or in the Masked Rider Lobby on the South side and all are encouraged to do your soul a favor by donating a few soles to the cause.
