The meeting was the third all-time between the two schools with Cal Poly winning all three contests.
Tech had not previously lost four-straight regular season non-conference contests since dropping five straight midway through the 2009 season when the Red Raiders fell to New Mexico State, Cal State Northridge, UConn, and Quinnipiac on April 13-15 in the San Diego Classic. Tech then lost to Northern Colorado in a non-conference game at the conclusion of the tournament.
Tech's 1-4 start to the season marked its worse since the Red Raiders lost 12-straight to open the 2008 season.
The Red Raiders were shut out for the second time in their last three games with Tech only scoring one run during that span. It marked the first time Tech had been held to just one run over three games since being shutout against Texas on April 6, 2010 before scoring just one run against Nebraska on April 10-11.
The Red Raiders struggled for the first time at the Kajikawa Classic under head coach Shannon Hays. Tech dropped to 10-5 all-time at the event under Hays after finishing 1-4 this season.
Melisa Ryba led Tech at the plate with a 2-for-3, marking her third multiple-hit performance of the tournament. The junior wrapped the weekend with a team-high .400 batting average.
Cara Custer and Brittany Talley combined to hold the Mustangs to three runs in the game as the duo finished off a weekend where they combined to pitch 29 of 32 total innings for Tech.
