The win moved Texas Tech to 2-0 all-time against Utah State. The Red Raiders previously defeated the Aggies, 6-4, on Feb. 11, 2001 during the Fiesta Bowl Classic.
The win marked Tech's sixth-straight, the program's longest streak since winning 11 in a row midway through the 2011 season.
The Red Raiders matched their season high with nine hits in the game. Tech also had nine hits on Saturday against Idaho State.
The Red Raider bats finished with a .295 average on the weekend as Adriana Perez led the way with a .500 average followed by Sandy James with a .409 mark.
The Red Raiders improved their batting average 56 points over the weekend as Tech went from a .195 mark to a .251 average after recording nine hits against the Aggies.
The Tech pitching staff wrapped a successful weekend as well as the Red Raiders gave up more than two runs only once in the tournament opener against Ohio State. The staff finished with a 2.10 ERA.
Cara Custer picked up her fourth victory of the tournament to improve to 5-3 on the year. It was also her third complete game on the weekend as well as she finished with a 1.97 ERA to drop her season ERA to 3.40.
Custer ended the weekend as the Big 12 leader with five wins. She also ranks among the top 10 in appearances, innings pitched, strikeouts and complete games. Brittany Talley also ranks among the top 10 in several categories as well.
Custer's complete game marked the third-straight outing where a Tech pitcher had gone the distance. Talley did so in the earlier game as well as the Red Raiders defeated DePaul.
Perez connected on a home run for the third-straight game with her fifth-inning blast to left field. No Tech player had previously homored in three-straight games since Sandy James did so in four-straight during the Masked Rider Invitational last season.
Perez finished with at least two hits for the third-straight game as she shares the team high in multiple-hit games with James and Melisa Ryba.
James' third-inning home run was her fourth of the season, finishing the weekend with the Big 12 lead in the category.
James' four RBI in the game marked her most since driving in a school-record tying eight against Iowa State on April 10 last season. She finished the weekend with nine total RBI.
James also matched her career high with four hits in the game. The junior also had a four-hit game at Iowa State on April 10 last season as well. She shares the team-high with three multiple-hit games this year.
