The meeting was 25th all-time between the two schools in a series that Tech now leads 13-12 after the two teams split games this weekend.
The loss snapped a 10-game winning streak for the Red Raiders which was their longest since winning 11 in a row throughout March to close out the non-conference schedule.
Tech's one run scored in the game was its fewest since Cal Poly shut out the Red Raiders Feb. 11 in the finale of the Kajikawa Classic.
Texas State starter Anne Marie held the Red Raiders to just one hit in the game, marking Tech's fewest since being no-hit by New Mexico State in the opener of the NCAA Tucson Regional last year.
The Red Raiders were previously 56-4 under head coach Shanon Hays when either leading or tied following six innings. The last time Tech failed to win when leading or tied following six innings was April 16 last year in the series opener at Oklahoma State that went eight innings with the Cowgirls prevailing, 2-1.
Tech wrapped the weekend hitting .216 over five games as a team. Adriana Perez led the squad with a .357 average that was followed by Emily Bledsoe with a .333 mark as well.
Despite giving up three runs to the Bobcats, the Tech pitching staff wrapped a successful weekend in the circle where Cara Custer, Brittany Talley and Kelsey Dennis combined for a 1.14 earned-run average.
Texas State's three runs in the game marked the most by a Tech opponent since Idaho State scored four in an 8-4 loss Feb. 18. The Red Raiders had previously held their opponent to two runs or less in eight of their last night contests.
Sandy James connected on Tech's only hit with a RBI single in the first. She has now had a base hit four-straight games and has reached base in 10-straight as well.
Cara Custer did not earn a decision in the game for the first time all season. In 10 previous appearances, the freshman had built a 7-3 record.
Custer's two hits surrendered over 5.0 innings marked her fewest in a start since also giving up two against Stanford Feb. 11 in Arizona. Custer only lasted one inning in that outing.
