THE SETON HALL SERIES
This was the second game between Texas Tech and Seton Hall in school history. The Red Raiders run-ruled the Pirates in both games.
Prior to this weekend, the Red Raiders had only played three first-time opponents this season in Idaho State, Binghamton and Stony Brook.
TEXAS TECH TEAM NOTES
Despite playing at Seton Hall, Tech was the home team for the game as the Red Raiders had previously earned the No. 1 seed during pool play.
Tech ended the game via run rule for the third time this weekend as the Red Raiders had previously defeated Seton Hall, 11-0, Friday and then Manhattan, 13-2, Saturday morning.
The win was Tech's 15-straight over a non-conference opponent, the school's longest such streak since opening the 2011 season with 24-straight wins.
After committing a season-high four errors in the second game against Manhattan Saturday, Tech was perfect in the field Sunday as the Red Raiders did not record an error for the sixth time in their last eight games.
The Red Raiders wrapped the Seton Hall Classic hitting .408 as a team, raising their season average to .300 in the process.
The Tech pitching staff, meanwhile, finished with a 0.98 earned-run average as the Red Raiders gave up six runs over 29.0 innings, only four of which were earned.
Adriana Perez
Perez was named the tournament MVP after going 3-for-3 with two home runs and seven RBI in the championship game.
Her seven RBI were one shy of the single-game school record that has been accomplished three times previously, two of which came from current Red Raiders Emily Bledsoe and Sandy James.
Her two homers give her nine on the year, one shy of Mikey Kenney for the team lead.
The two home run performance marked the third time a Tech player had hit two or more in a game this season. Sandy James did so Friday afternoon against Seton Hall and also against San Diego State in the season opener.
It marked the 11th time in school history a Red Raider had homored twice in a game.
Perez wrapped the tournament hitting .500 (8-for-16) with four home runs and 11 RBI.
It was her team-leading 11th multiple-hit game of the year and seventh multiple-RBI game thus far.
The junior extended her season-high hitting streak to 10-straight, the longest such streak for any Tech player this year.
Cara Custer
After throwing a no-hitter against Seton Hall Friday, Custer continued her dominance of the Pirates as she retired the first eight hitters en route to a two-hit shutout.
Custer was named the tournament's top pitcher after not giving up a single run over 11.2 innings. She also struck out 15 during that span. She appeared in three of five games.
The win moved Custer to 14-5 on the year, moving her into a tie for eighth already on the school single-season chart.
Mikey Kenney
Kenney wrapped a successful week at the plate by going 1-for-2 with a walk against the Pirates.
Kenney finished the tournament hitting .538 (7-for-13) that trailed only Raven Richardson's .545 average. She also had a tournament and three RBI on the weekend.
