The Red Raiders improved to 12-5 all-time when playing Iowa State in Lubbock.
Head coach Shanon Hays is now 6-1 all-time against Iowa State and 3-1 when playing the Cyclones in Lubbock.
TEXAS TECH TEAM NOTES
The Red Raiders closed a very successful Big 12 home opening weekend as Tech is now 12-24 all-time in conference home openers.
Prior to this weekend, Tech had swept only one opponent in a Big 12 home opening series which was an April 10, 1999 doubleheader sweep of Iowa State. This is the first year where all league series are three games.
The Red Raiders went to extra innings for the third time this season as the Red Raiders are now 3-0 in such games.
Tech had not won an extra-inning Big 12 game since defeating No. 12 Oklahoma, 7-6, in nine innings on April 15, 2010 in Norman. That game was the second of a doubleheader.
Tech had not previously won an extra-inning Big 12 game played in Lubbock since defeating Iowa State, 4-3, in 10 innings on April 27, 2008.
The win improved Tech to 6-1 all-time when playing on April Fools' Day (April 1).
The walk-off victory was Tech's first of the season and the first since Emily Bledsoe hit a two-run shot to send the Red Raiders to a 10-9 victory over Appalachian State on Feb. 13 last year.
The Red Raiders did not commit an error in the field for the third-straight game, Tech's longest streak since going three-consecutive games to start the Seton Hall Classic.
All of Tech's nine hits in the game came from a total of four players. Tech had at least four players post multiple-hit games in every game of the series this weekend.
Tech had not blown a seventh-inning lead since giving up a run to Stephen F. Austin that forced extra innings on Feb. 25 this year. The Red Raiders ended up winning that contest, 2-1, in eight innings.
Adriana Perez
Perez recorded her first career walk-off hit in a Texas Tech jersey and the first game-ending home run for a Tech player to win a game since Emily Bledsoe did so against Appalachian State on Feb. 13 last year.
Perez extended her hitting streak to 14-straight games with the 2-for-4 performance. It is the longest hitting streak for any Tech player this season.
She finished with two or more hits for the fifth-straight game as it was her team-leading 15th multiple-hit game of the year and 11th multiple-RBI game.
Perez wrapped this week hitting .714 (10-for-14) with four home runs, 12 RBI, four runs scored, 23 total bases, and a 1.653 slugging percentage.
Emily Bledsoe
Bledsoe continued her strong hitting in the series as she went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and a pair of runs scored.
She homered twice in a game for only the second time in her career. She last did so against Southern Utah on Feb. 12, 2010 during the Arizona State Kajikawa Classic in Arizona.
She wrapped the three-game series hitting .556 (8-for-11) with three home runs and seven RBI. She also drew three walks total and scored six runs, tying Mikey Kenney for the team high.
It was Bledsoe's sixth multiple-hit game of the year and her sixth multiple-RBI performance as well. She has had three or more hits in a game three times this year.
Mikey Kenney
Mikey Kenney added to her career home run with her 11th dinger of the season and her 30th of her career.
It was Kenney's first home run since hitting a three-run shot against Seton Hall on March 16.
She finished 2-for-4 at the plate for her 10th multiple-hit game of the year.
Logan Hall
Hall went 2-for-3 at the plate for her eighth multiple-hit game on the season.
She powered a double to the gap in right center in the second inning, marking her Big 12-leading 10th double of the season.
Cara Custer
Custer picked up her 17th victory of the season, the most wins by a Tech pitcher since Ashly Jacobs went 17-15 in 2007.
Her 17 victories are tied with Jacobs for the fourth-most in a single-season in school history.
The record for number of victories by a Tech freshman in school history is 23 that was set by Amanda Renfro in 1998.
Custer went 8.0 innings, matching her longest outing of the season. She also went a full 8.0 innings against North Texas on Feb. 24 during the Texas Shootout.
