Muleshoe product and current Midland College freshman Tyson Turnbow has signed a national letter of intent and will join the Texas Tech Men's Golf program this fall.
"Tyson is a West Texas guy and great athlete," said head coach Greg Sands. "We are thrilled to have him join our golf program. He went to the state semifinals in tennis and was a decorated basketball player, so that really shows you the type of athleticism that he will bring to our team. He hasn't been as focused on golf up until this point so we think he has tremendous upside."
Turnbow, a native of nearby Muleshoe, captured the 2011 Class 2A State Golf Championship as a senior. He won the medalist honor by five strokes as he tallied a two-round score of 6-over, 148.
On the tennis courts, Turnbow advanced to the Class 2A State semifinals in both his junior and senior season. As a basketball standout for the Mules, he earned All-Region and All-South Plains in 2010 and then again in 2011.
Turnbow has played one season at Midland College where he has compiled three Top 10 and one Top Three finish for the Chaps. As a team, the Chaps have posted seven Top Three finishes this season.
