SEATTLE - After a near-record setting inaugural campaign in scarlet and black, Texas Tech junior Adriana Perez was honored on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's (NFCA) All-Central Region first team Thursday morning.
The junior, who transferred to Tech this year from Antelope Valley College, leads the Red Raiders with a .350 batting average along with 15 home runs and 55 RBI. She is among the Big 12 leaders in several offensive categories, most noticeably home runs and RBI.
Perez, a Lancaster, Calif. native, needs just one more home run to match teammate Sandy James' single-season school record from a year ago, while her 55 RBI currently rank tied for third all-time as well.
This is the fifth postseason honor for Perez so far as she was named to the All-Big 12 second team, the College Sports Madness All-Big 12 first team and Fielder Player of the Year, and then the website's first team All-America.
Tech has had a player recognized on one of the all-central region teams in each of Shanon Hays' three seasons. By being named to the first team, Perez will now be eligible for selection to one of three NFCA All-America teams that will be announced May 30.
Perez will be back in action Friday afternoon when the Red Raiders open the NCAA Washington Regional against the Maryland Terrapins. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CT at the Husky Softball Stadium.
