The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Red Raiders (16-16), who came into the doubleheader on the heels of an 8-4 victory over Seattle University Wednesday night to start its trip to the Greater Northwest.
The Huskies (27-5) controlled a 3-1 lead heading into the sixth before unloading four runs off Tech starter Cara Custer, who had kept Washington off the board over the previous three innings.
Custer (9-9), playing not far from her hometown of Tacoma, Washington, took the loss for the Red Raiders in what was a pitching rematch from the 2012 NCAA Seattle Regional. She allowed all seven runs off seven hits and nine walks in her fifth-straight complete game outing.
Custer (9-9) was opposing Washington starter Kasey Stanchek for the second time in her career as the two then freshmen faced each other in the second game of the 2012 regional where Washington scored a 2-0 victory.
Stanchek (9-2) picked up the win in a complete-game effort where she allowed just one run off three hits, four walks and five strikeouts. She ended the game having retired 11 of the Tech's final 13 hitters.
Tech scored its only run off Stanchek in the third inning off a RBI ground out from Kierra Miles. Brooke Scott recorded Tech's only hit over the final four innings with a leadoff single to start the fifth.
Taylor Van Zee and Alli Aguilar both went 2-for-3 with two RBI each to lead the Huskies at the plate. The pair combined to drive in all three of Washington's runs over the first two innings off a RBI double from Aguilar in the first and then a two-run single from Van Zee in the second.
Washington managed to strand 11 total runners as Custer was able to work out of a few jams throughout the game. The Huskies stranded at least one runner in all six innings.
