FORT WORTH, Texas -- The Lady Raiders will lay everything on the line Saturday when No. 15 Texas Tech faces No. 19 TCU in the season finale for both teams at 1o a.m. at the Friedman Tennis Center.
Texas Tech (17-4, 7-1 Big 12) needs to win the match with TCU (16-7, 6-2 Big 12) in order to earn at least a share of the Lady Raiders' third Big 12 Conference title in the last four seasons.
No. 8 Baylor (20-6, 6-1 Big 12) needs wins over No. 72 Kansas and Kansas State this weekend to earn a piece of the crown if the Lady Raiders win.
"Anytime you are in the same conversation with Baylor, you know that you are doing something right," said Texas Tech seventh-year head coach Todd Petty. "If you would have asked me in September that we had a shot at the Big 12 title with one match to play, I would have been ecstatic, especially with five freshmen."
Texas Tech defeated No. 7 Baylor, 4-2, on Apr. 4 in Lubbock. The Lady Raiders' lone loss in league play came in Austin, when Texas Tech lost to No. 36 Texas, 4-2.
"TCU is a very good program," said Petty. "They are well coached and they have some veterans at the top of the lineup. We will definitely have our hands full. "The ladies have been excited about this opportunity and have looked forward to it. It is in our control."
For Kenna Kilgo, this will be her last regular season match. The senior from Crawford, has been the cornerstone of the most successful four-year period in program history. With a win on Saturday, Kilgo would have been a part of three conference titles, four NCAA appearances and a school-record four-year win total of 74 team victories.
The Lady Raiders feature a line with Kilgo, along with a sophomore (Lynn Kiro) and four freshmen (Sarah Dvorak, Sabrina Federici, Katelyn Jackson and Gabriela Talaba). Jackson (19-8), who holds down the No. 6 spot, looks to become the fourth Lady Raider to reach 20 wins this season. Dvorak leads the team with a 23-9 mark, while Kiro is 21-9 and Federici is 20-4.
A school-record five Lady Raiders are ranked this week, as Kilgo (No. 65), Kiro (No. 70), Dvorak (No. 107) and Federici (No. 124) are ranked in singles and Kilgo and Talaba are ranked No. 50 as a tandem.
