LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech women's golf is headed to its fifth regional in six years after being announced as one of 18 teams in the NCAA San Antonio Regional at Briggs Ranch Golf Club on Monday night during the NCAA Selection Show.
The No. 37 Lady Raiders, the 10th seed, are playing in their 15th regional overall and will join UCLA, Washington, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Arizona State, Baylor, Oregon, Florida State, Auburn, Texas, Houston, Gonzaga, Oklahoma, Kennesaw State, Lamar, Boston and Alabama State in San Antonio, May 7-9.
Tech played Briggs Ranch in October at the Alamo Invitational. The top six teams from each regional will qualify for the NCAA Championship.
"Really excited about the opportunity to go back to the NCAA Regionals," head coach JoJo Robertson said. "These girls have worked hard for this all year so they deserve every bit of this."
Tech finished third in the Big 12 Conference Women's Golf Championship this past week, tying its best finish in program history. The Lady Raiders have finished third or better in five of its last seven tournaments and sixth or better in each one since October.
Senior Stephanie Bertelsen, junior Kimmy Hill and junior Sarah Brown were named to the 2015 Big 12 All-Tournament Team. Each one is scoring 73.9 strokes per round or better through 24 rounds or more this season.
Hill played in the 2014 NCAA Central Regional as an individual, finishing in a tie for 45th.
Tech last played in the 2013 NCAA Central Regional in Norman, Oklahoma, and finished 11th out of 24 teams. Tech is looking to qualify for its first NCAA Championship since 1996. The 2015 NCAA Championship will take place May 22-27 at Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla.
