LUBBOCK, Texas - In his Masters debut, senior Matias Dominguez carded a 4-over 76 in the first round of play at Augusta National on Thursday afternoon.
The Chilean native was paired alongside fellow South American and 2009 Masters champion Angel Cabrera as well as the 2012 runner-up Louis Oosthuizen for the opening 18 holes.
Dominguez, who sits in a tie for 77th overall heading into Friday's second round, bogeyed hole No. 1 before settling in with his short-game for five straight pars.
"I didn't give myself a lot of birdie chances," Dominguez said. "But I made a lot of ups and downs that kept me in competition. Tomorrow, it's going to be based on going for more pins and playing a little bit more aggressive so that I can give myself more birdie opportunities."
Former Texas Longhorn Jordan Spieth leads the field with a 64 in the opening round followed by Charley Hoffman, Justin Rose, Ernie Els and Jason Day who finished with a 5-under 67 in a tie for second place.
The Red Raider senior will tee off at 7:51am CST on Friday in the second round of play. Live scoring and video feeds are available at Masters.com.
