Lady Raiders Head to Landfall Tradition
October 27, 2016 | Women's Golf
Texas Tech opens the Landfall Tradition at 7:30 a.m. Friday morning in North Carolina
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech will face another challenging field this weekend when the Lady Raiders tee off at the Landfall Tradition which is held at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, North Carolina.
The 54-hole tournament, which is hosted by UNC-Wilmington, begins with 18 holes on Friday morning followed by the final two rounds on both Saturday and Sunday. This is Texas Tech's first appearance at the Landfall Tradition since the Lady Raiders finished tied for third early in the 2012-13 season.
Tech is one of 12 schools in the field that is currently ranked among the top-40 teams nationally in the latest Golfweek rankings. The Lady Raiders, who are ranked 37th in the poll, will face an 18-team field that includes top-ranked Alabama as well as No. 8 Furman, No. 12 Purdue, No. 13 Wake Forest, No. 17 North Carolina, No. 18 South Carolina, No. 20 Central Florida and No. 23 Oklahoma.
Tech head coach JoJo Robertson will use a lineup consisting of juniors Gabby Barker and Lauren Mason as well as sophomores Caralyn Barker and Mami Yamamoto and freshman Sofia Garcia. Garcia and Barker are Tech's two highest-ranked players so far this year with Garcia appearing at No. 67 in Golfweek's individual poll and Barker just 10 spots behind her.
In just her first collegiate season, Garcia has already impressed as she is averaging 71.7 strokes per round which is just lower than Barker's 72.2 clip. Garcia is coming off a fifth-place finish just over a week ago at the Betsy Rawls Invitational.
Barker, meanwhile, has two top-20 performances already this year, highlighted by her first-place finish in Tech's own Red Raider Invitational to open the season. Barker ended the Betsy Rawls Invitational in a tie for 16th overall following consecutive under-par cards to end the tournament.
The Lady Raiders finished fifth as a team in Austin after a strong final round pushed Tech past both SMU and UNLV. It was the second top-five finish for Tech this year as the Lady Raiders also wrapped the Red Raider Invitational in second place.
Tech will tee off at 7:30 a.m. CT Friday morning alongside Alabama and Purdue. Live results are available throughout the weekend at www.GolfStat.com.
